Bipasha Basu snubbing the media

bipashabasu
Bollywood’s beauty Bipasha Basu has of-late started snubbing the media with her ever so obvious royal ignores.

At a recent product promotion party, Bips played the perfect brand ambassador but at the same time refused to respond to any questions related to any of her upcoming films.

Bipasha, who’s riding high on the success of ‘Race’ has been observed turning down questions at a quite a few occasions, though at the time of promoting her flick ‘Race’ she was seen mingling with the media like never before.

Bipasha has always been known to be friendly with the media barring a few occasions where she was asked personal questions. At one such occasion where her beau John Abraham accompanied her, the media present there committed the gaffe of asking John about his wedding plans and pat came the reply of a furious Bips, “John is not the only actor around is he? Why don’t you people go and ask other actors the same?

Ok Bips, we get it. It’s her personal life and she has full right to her privacy. But in that case, why do we see her mingling amongst the shutterbugs all the time?

No issues with that, Bipasha has a long league of upcoming movies and she is smart enough to know what is the process of movie promotions, what say?

Aashayein brings back John's old memories

When you say Pondicherry, one thinks of a little French town on the coast line, beautiful beaches and sultry afternoons...but that was not the reason why John Abraham requested Nagesh Kukunoor to shoot Aashayein in Pondicherry.

John Abraham finds Pondicherry as his lucky town and has some fond memories of the place. This is the same place where John shot for his first film Jism with Bipasha Basu in 2003. John loves this place very much. In fact, every time he feels low, he visits the place and it completely refreshes him. Also as a town, he feels that Pondicherry has a very positive vibe and thought it would do with the theme of 'Hope', Aashayein...

Smiles John Abraham, "I love Pondicherry, it was the same place from where I started my film career in 2003 with Jism. This place makes me feel good and comfortable. When we were shooting at Pondicherry for Aashayein, I used to get this deja vu feeling...I actually revisited all the places that we had shot the film earlier. I would take walks all alone on the beaches and spend time alone in tranquility with the nature. This place always leaves me with hope in life...and never seizes to bring a smile."

Bipasha Basu: racing ahead

I am on cloud nine. If your year starts off with a good film, you have every reason to celebrate," says a jubilant Bipasha Basu, gung-ho about the response to her recently-released Race.

The Abbas-Mustan thriller which featured her along with Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy, opened to good houses and has been declared the year's first hit.

The buzz is that following its success Basu has hiked up her fee, like some of her other colleagues.

"I don't know about others but I'm happy with what I'm doing and getting," she asserts.

Another house?
There's a rumour that she's spending some of the money to buy a flat in her home town Kolkata? "Why would I want to buy another house when I have one already," she retorts.

With Pankh, Bachna Ae Hasinon and Shob Charitra Kalponik lined up, the actress will be fairly visible this year. She has started work on a new film, Freeze, and life promises to be hectic.

Sunil Sethi: Skin & Navel-Gazing, Indian Style

bipasha john kiss
Showing a bit of skin is in. No it's not — not if you're blonde and white and come from down Texas way. Political protests in Maharashtra and West Bengal that have forced American cheerleaders at IPL matches to cover up and behave are, once again, a fine exhibition of the time-dishonoured Indian traditions of hypocrisy, xenophobia and misplaced prudery. It's cultural assault by the West when foreign women show cleavage, wiggle waists and indulge in high-kicking steps in stadiums — but it's lip-smackingly delicious when the country's cinemas and TV screens spill over with Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Mallika Shehrawat and Rakhi Sawant do the same. Compared to what Bollywood's babes get up to in public, American cheerleaders are innocents abroad. Surely more Indians are intimate with Bipasha's state of undress in Jism, Kareena's extensive, wafer-thin waistline in Tashan and Preity's micro-minis in Karan Johar movies than they are with Exhibits A, B and C of a few visiting cheerleaders?

Double standard or double vision? A case of both. Notions of sexual suggestiveness vary from place for place — Japanese geisha blacken their front teeth as provocation to clients — and distinctions between the pure and impure are variable. Prurience, like innocence, lies in the eyes of the beholder.

In America, skimpily-attired cheerleaders are as much a tradition as items girls and extras in Hindi film dance numbers. Cheerleaders are an organised group, their vocation being both specialised and hazardous. There are nearly 4 million cheerleaders practising their art — a combination of calisthenics and sexy gyrations — on college campuses and playing fields. In the US there are annual cheerleader awards, a wide-selling cheerleader magazine and a cheerleading foundation. About 25,000 cheerleaders are injured every year and require medical attention.

By contrast, Bollywood's dancers and Mumbai's dance bar girls, for all the skin they show and the dangerous lives they lead in the twilight zone, are unprotected and beleagured — exploited by clients, employers and the police, and harassed by ultra-conservative politicians bent on enforcing their puritanical moral code. For a harrowing account of Mumbai's demi mondaine there is the detailed real-life of Monalisa, a bar girl in Suketu Mehta's award-winning nonfiction narrative Maximum City. Given half a chance any of these Indian girls would gladly swap their lives with American cheerleaders — a Green Card would guarantee a higher safety standard than a G-string.

"Just a few cheering girls on the sidelines and people are upset … Entertainment is a part and parcel of sports worldwide," IPL boss Lalit Modi was quoted as saying the other day. Good point. When it comes to sex, Indians have a long and richly diversified repertoire of where to seek — and how to find — such entertainment. Current ideas of political correctness may prevent a truthful admission but some of the greatest stars of the Indian screen and of musical gharanas are descended from a lineage of courtesans, kothewalis and devadasis. Indian cinema owes its oldest debt to these strong-willed and talented women who made the transfer to screen in the early chapters of its history. An elementary reading of the Bollywood genre of storytelling is a confirmation of its voyeuristic, erotically charged content in music and dance. What else have the long lineup of vamps, mujra queens, nautch girls and cabaret artistes (such as Helen) been purveying all these years?

Nor should the transition from the wet sari look to Western-style sartorial revelations be that surprising. The international fashion columnist Suzy Menkes was in India recently attending one of the fashion weeks. Asked about the most noticeable change in India she had observed in 17 years of visiting the country, she said: "The declining use of the sari. To me it is one of the most glamorous and sexy garments ever created. But I am sad, though not surprised, to see fewer women wear it."

Fashions change, in sex and style, as in any department of life. But the Indian habit of navel-gazing does not.

Bips-John in Miami

The two Dostana heroes had a pleasant break while shooting in Miami. First Abhishek Bachchan had wife Aishwarya Rai join him on their first wedding anniversary and then John Abraham had Bipasha Basu for company.

"It's just for three days. My work got over on Monday in Switzerland, so I decided to rush to Miami to be with John before I went on to my next shoot," Bipasha said, happy at the thought of finally seeing John after a month.

The Karan Johar produced Dostana being directed by Tarun Mansukhani, also stars Priyanka Chopra in the female lead.

Bipasha was shooting in Europe with Ranbir Kapoor for Bachna Ae Haseeno.

"I really enjoyed myself in the European summer. I had a super time shooting with Ranbir and my director Sid (Siddharth Anand). In fact, the entire unit was loads of fun. Italy was paradise. I enjoyed my time in Capri, Rome and Zurich."

After her brief holiday in Miami, Bipasha rushes to Bangkok to join Neil Nitin Mukesh for a 40-day schedule of new-director Jehangir Surti's Freeze.

Interestingly, in both Bachna Ae Haseeno and Freeze, Bipasha plays a woman slightly older than her co-stars.

Muje Johnny Ki Yaad Aa Rahi Hai

Karan Johar's Dostana team in Miami is never short of VIP guests. Barring Priyanka Chopra's Harman who's too tied up with the release of his maiden film to be besides his maiden, one or the other soul-mate of one of the principal stars keeps making an appearance sunny Miami.

First it was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who flew in last month to be with her husband Abhishek Bachchan for their wedding anniversary.

Now it's Bipasha Basu who ion Monday flew from London to Miami to be with John Abraham in Miami. "It's just for three days.

My work got over on Monday in Switzerland, so I decided to rush to Miami for three days to be with John before I go on to my next shoot," she laughed joyously, happy to be finally seeing John after a month.

While John went off to Miami for Dostana Bipasha headed for various parts of Europe to shoot with Ranbir Kapoor for Bachna Ae Haseenon.

"Italy was paradise. And I really enjoyed myself in the European summer. I had a super time shooting with Ranbir and my director Sid (dharth Anand). In fact the entire unit was loads of fun. I enjoyed my time in Capri, Rome and Zurich."

Interestingly Bipasha couldn't attend the Zee awards in London because of her shooting in Italy, though her co-star Ranbir could. She flew into London to catch a flight for Miami barely 48 hours after the awards.

You won't see much of Bipasha in Bombay. She has been shooting in Italy and Switzerland. And now after her brief stint in Miami, she rushes to Bangkok to join Neil Nitin Mukesh for a 40-day schedule of new-director Jehangir Surti's Freeze.

Interestingly in both Bachna Ae Haseenon and Freeze, for which she shot back-to-back in Europe and Bangkok Bipasha plays a slightly older woman to her co-star.

Ranbir To Follow in His Father's Steps

As we all know, Ranbir Kapoor has followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an actor. However, now it seems that for his new film, Bachna Ae Haseeno, he will also be dancing to the same tune. Actually it is a tune with the same name and lyrics that will be reminiscent of the ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ song Rishi Kappor performed to in Hum Kisise Kum Nahin.

Choreographer Ahmed Khan revealed, “Yes, we are having a song called 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' and it will feature Ranbir along with the 3 girls- Bipasha, Deepika and Minissha. It will be mainly used as promotional number for the film. Since Rishi-ji's number is still a cult hit, they decided to have Ranbir also perform to a song which has similar lyrics. Vishal and Shekhar have composed the music for the song.” The film also stars Deepika Padukone, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu.

About Ranbir’s dancing ability Ahmed said, “In Saawariya, baring a number or two, he didn't really get much of a chance to showcase his dancing skills but he has got that rhythm in his genes. His father and uncle Shammi-ji have all been brilliant dancers and even Ranbir has his own style.”

Ahmed added that working with the actor has been “great”: “I shot a song with him in Mumbai at Yashraj studios. It's a commercial Indian song which we did. He is a brilliant dancer.”
